Harrow Review - Is The Disney+ Medical Crime Drama Any Good? (2024)

If you're looking for a new crime drama the check out the Australian tv series, Harrow.

Harrow stars Ioan Gruffudd who plays the lead character Daniel Harrow, a Queensland-based forensic pathologist with unfailing empathy and a total disregard for the rules.

Clearly Daniel's life is not going to plan. He has a somewhat cordial relationship with his ex-wife and shares a teenage daughter with her. And that's where most of the problems start.

Fern Harrow, their daughter, has gone off the rails slightly. She has been arrested, is borderline homeless and doesn't communicate with her parents at all.

Then Daniel decides to give up his job and go traveling with her and all is going to plan until a body is pulled out of the water.

Instantly, Daniel Harrow knows there is trouble ahead, becuase he knows who the victim is. And he's the only one.

Without telling his family why he won't leave, he must know now try to stall the identification of the body and the murder investigation that follows.

But why? Who is the victim? More importantly, who killed him?

That is the thread that runs throughout the first season of Harrow.

Is Harrow Worth Watching?

Harrow starts off great. We get a snapshot of a body being dumped into the water and from there it's a guessing game which keeps you really engaged.

Where Harrow differs from some of the other crime dramas, is that it's also a medical and police procedural tv series.

Even though there's one big storyline, each episode has its own mini storyline and crime that needs to be solved.

I should note though that some parts of it are quite graphic. I mean, Daniel Harrow is a forensic pathologist so expect to see a lot of dead bodies!

As characters go, there are quite a few to like including Harrow's co-workers, Simon Van Reyk and Lyle Fairley as well as Detective Bryan Nichols.

However, there are a few that are just plain annoying including daughter Fern Harrow (Ella Newton) who jumps to every single wrong conclusion possible.

That said, she doesn't ruin the show, she's just irritating so if you can get passed that you should really enjoy watching Harrow.

Where To Watch Harrow TV Series

Harrow was created and written by Stephen M. Irwin and Leigh McGrath and directed by Peter Andrikidis. It is now available to watch on Disney+.

It is the first international drama production for the Disney-owned ABC Studios International.

It premiered on Australian network ABC in 2018 and was distributed internationally by Hulu.

How Many Seasons Of Harrow?

There are currently only three seasons of Harrow but you can watch them all on Disney+.

The first season deals with a huge secret that Daniel Harrow is keeping where the past threatens to ruin him professionally and personally.

The second season picks up exactly where the first season ended. This time the story arc revolves around somebody out to get Daniel Harrow and ruin his life.

The problem is that the main suspect is dead and nobody believes Daniel, sending him spiralling. THis is also the season that introduces the character of Grace Molyneux.

The third season, revolves around the death of a son named James Reed, that Harrow has never met. But who killed James Reed and why was he even in Australia?

Is There A Season 4 Of Harrow?

At the moment there is no confirmation that Harrow will get a fourth season.

However, the show has been a huge success and while ABC bosses haven't renewed it, they also haven't officially cancelled it either.
