Founded in 1972 by David S. Stare, Dry Creek Vineyard was the first new winery established in the Dry Creek Valley after Prohibition. Dry Creek Vineyard revitalized the region’s wine industry! They offer a variety of wine tastings which include: Meritage/Bordeaux Style Wine Tasting, Icon Wine Tasting or Private Tasting with the Winemaker. You can also select to add lunch to their wine tasting, with food prepared by their winery chef. Helicopter Tastings are something that absolutely sets Williamson Wines apart! Guests can depart from the Sonoma County Airport for a scenic helicopter ride above Healdsburg’s spectacular views, seeing some wineries from above that are not open to the public. At the end of the flight, you will arrive at Williamson Wines where you will hear the story of Dawn and Bill Williamson. This winery and tasting room is a throwback to simpler times in wine country. Blanchard isn't a resort and there are no concerts or five-star dining options. You visit Blanchard because you want to taste great wine with the person who knows it the best. At this winery, you will sit and drink with the owner. You will get to know him and he will learn a little bit about you. The winery and winemaking process surrounds you here. There are no attempts to hide it behind fancy paintings or decorative plants. That is why this is such a great experience. You may even get to leave your mark here with a chalk decoration on one of the barrels.

Now we take you from the industrial setting at Blanchard to the rural splendor of Bella Vineyards. This is another off-the-beaten-path gem that visitors to Healdsburg should know about. The winery is surrounded by the rural beauty of the Dry Creek Valley. This is where they grow the zinfandel grapes that power their most exceptional wines. Bella's vineyards are organic, dry-farmed and there is a major focus on sustainability.
The winery offers tastings inside their wine cave. This is a unique experience for many wine tasters. The cool temperatures are perfect for the wine and for anyone looking to get out of the heat of a Sonoma summer day. The tasting room staff is friendly and energetic. There is no wine snobbery to be found here. You can taste in the cave or find a comfy spot on the lawn. The tastings are $15. they also offer a few tour options if you book in advance. All of this makes Bella Vineyards one of the best Healdsburg wineries for visitors.
Sapphire Hill Winery |55 Front St Healdsburg, CA 95448
Beginning in 1989, Sapphire Hill Vineyards and Winery established a reputation for serving their award-winning Chardonnays, Pinots, and Zinfandels. Sapphire Hill Winery continues to focus on varietals from small unique vineyards – many times, only bottling as little as 48 cases of a particular wine. They pride themselves on finding great grapes to make into great wine – only bottling wines that they are proud to serve to their family and friends. At Sapphire Hill Winery, they offer a 5-course food and wine pairing, which takes place in their private barrel room. Guests can also choose to have a tasting at the bar where they can sample small production wines and seasonally available bites like caramel popcorn with their Russian River Chardonnay.
Seghesio Family Vineyards|700 Grove Street, Healdsburg, CA 95448
This winery provides an important link to the history of winemaking and grape growing in Sonoma County. The Seghesio's were immigrants. They brought their winemaking knowledge from the "old country" and established a winery before prohibition. The family persisted even after prohibition stopped most winemaking operations in the United States. With over a century to perfect their craft, Seghesio offers some of the best Zinfandel in America. Visit the winery and you will get a history lesson on how the valley has developed and changed over the years. You can also try some of the better Italian varietal wines available in California.
The winery isn't just about history. There are a lot of great tasting experiences you can enjoy in the here and now. The "Chef's Table" and the "Founder's Flight" are both available with a reservation. The "Chef's Table" experience is a four-course food and wine pairing with a wine expert. You will learn the fundamentals of wine pairing while you experience Seghesio's Zinfandel matched perfectly with chef Peter Janiak's cooking. This is our final stop on our list of the 8 best Healdsburg wineries. We are happy to leave you in the capable hands of the Medlock Ames staff. This organic winery and vineyard offers visitors a perfect blend of highly rated wines and a beautifully appointed tasting room. You can add energetic and knowledgeable staff to that for a perfect Healdsburg wine tasting experience. The winery produces some big and bold Cabs, which you don't get as much of in Sonoma as you do in Napa. They also have a red estate blend that Wine Advocate rated a 92. If you are looking for white, they produce Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc wines.
Make sure you pay the extra $5 (the standard tasting is $15) to get the cheese pairing with your tasting. This elevates the whole experience and makes the Medlock Ames wine tasting one of the most memorable in Healdsburg.
